San Diego Newborn Photographer
Baby Leo 9 days old.
With every newborn session I get, I just can’t stop thinking that how lucky I am to be San Diego Newborn Photographer. And even as hard as these session could be sometimes, I will never trade this job for any other job in the world!
This time I get to photograph baby Leo who was only 9 days old by the time we had a session.
This is a second child in the family and parents already knew how fast this newborn stage goes by and how important it is to get the most precious time on camera and have those images for many generations to come!
It was a decent drive for parents to get to my home, so baby Leo took a good nap in the car. When this happens I usually start the session with swaddling with some cozy and warm wool wraps to make them fall asleep again. And it really works wonders. Once babies are swaddled nice and tight and feel very secure and this puts them right back to sleep 🙂
I like to use different swaddling techniques during the session and the one where the baby’s little feet and hands are shown are my favorite. And it’s the perfect time to get some macro shots as well.
In posed newborn photography, it’s common to pose and photograph newborn babies when they are fully asleep, otherwise, it’s very hard to make eye contact with them or control their movements. However, awake images are always parent’s favorites and most of the time are just adorable! And those yawning moments are just to die for!
When it was time to photograph parents we incorporated a romper to save dad and mom from baby “accidents”. It’s pretty common during the session that not only a photographer gets pooped or peed, but dads as well. So we put the diaper back on and used a comfy romper.
After family images are done it was a big brother’s turn to get into the pictures.
Big brother Ily is 2 years old and like all normal 2 year old’s he didn’t want to do anything with the baby or a photographer. This is a pretty common situation I must say. So in the cases like that the power of photoshop comes in very handy. We put baby in the basket first and take a picture of it, and then we keep the basket at the same spot, take the baby out and put some treat/toy inside and ask a toddler to go see what’s inside. This makes them sit by the basket and gives me about 2 seconds to photograph big brother by the basket. And 2 seconds that’s all I actually need. Then two pictures are composed together in Photoshop to get one perfect sibling image.
It’s a trick that many newborn photographers use. Â We as parents know how important this image is, but it’s hard to explain it to a 2 year old. Right?
It was a great session overall and now I know parents has these priceless moments archived for many years to come to show their kids, grandkids when they grow up.
